Moab

Visiting Moab and Arches National Park.  We visited here a few years ago but didn't make the hike to Delicate Arch, so decided to go this time.
Also did some bike riding around Moab.

Balloon Fiesta

The balloon fiesta was really great!  The mass ascension where they launch all at once is amazing. I didn't know there were that many balloons in the world.
You can walk all around the balloon launch area, right up to them as they take off.  The second day we rode bikes up to a park they were landing in.  A real hoot watching them coming in over fences and trees and putting them down in the clear.

Car show and other El Dorado stuff

While visiting with Tracey's Mom most every day, we have also been catching some of the local attractions.  Last week a car show and the local Walnut River brewery.

El Dorado

We're camping at the state park on El Dorado lake. Nice big spots and very few people here during the week.  We've seen herons, geese, deer and wild turkey.

Oakley Kansas

Camped in Oakley Kansas last night.  Site of the shooting contest between William  Cody and William Compton for who could call themselves Buffalo Bill.
The loser had to refer to themselves as Buffy for the rest of their lives.  ....

Fort Collins, Co

Camped at the KOA in Fort Collins .  Nice place with green grassy spots.   Had fun talking to Christina and Chris, fellow Airstreamers.
Went to Odell's brewery for beers and brats.  Another great place.  On to some place in Kansas tomorrow.

Mt. Woodson Peak via Poway Lake

Ed and I went to Poway Lake to do a short 2 mile hike.  Along the way, we saw a turn off for Mt. Woodson peak.  Mt. Woodson is an 8 mile RT hike famous for this odd shaped boulder at the top nicknamed 'potato chip rock'.  We've been discussing this hike with Sue and Jessica since we got here.  The trail had been described as moderately strenuous; gaining 2300 feet in 3.5 miles.  We all wanted to do it together, but decided it was probably best not to do it because none of us are the hikers Ed is.  But when Ed & I passed the sign that said 3 miles...well 3 miles just isn't that far!!  So I said, lets just do it, we're here right??
THE-MOST-GRUELING-HIKE-EVER.  There is only two very small sections of the trail that level out enough to renew strength.  We had to stop OFTEN (on incline.)  For several minutes every time.  We persevered and after several hours reached the top.  Never again.

At the horizon is San Diego, Point Loma and Coronado Islands

Balboa Park

Cold and wet day at Balboa Park...doesn't matter, always so picture perfect.
