Hiking Hackberry Springs trail

A couple of photos of our hike to Hackberry Springs.  A great hike that goes thru some beautiful desert and down to a spring and creek.  The spring pics must be on Tracey's camera.

On the road again...Reagan Library

Headed out Ventura highway and a 'quick' stop at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Part way thru and eating lunch under air force one! Ed's exwife's father flew the helicopter he's pictured in! Small world.
Headed to Banning afterwards.

Santa Barbara, CA

Monday we spent the day in Santa Barbara.  Visiting the Mission & courthouse with a trip up to the clocktower. Beautiful view. Window shopped and ate along State street. And lastly Sterns Wharf.

Solvang, CA

Camping at Paradise in the Los Padres Nat'l forest.  Not much to write home about. Last night was so dark, I couldn't see my hand in front of my face. Black as pitch. A coyote came into camp yipping up a storm at 130 in the morning. No more sleep for me. Oh and there is one of the biggest oaks I've seen in some time.
What a nifty town Solvang is. I will always remember this little Danish town as the place we (12s/Seahawks) became one of the luckiest teams in the fight to the Superbowl!!! What a game.
The sunshine came & went while watching the game, so we toured around in the rain. A lot like Leavenworth (WA), this towns architecture seemed more authentic and every building was made in the style.
We had Solvang's famous kkkjk; delish. And of course, purchased a Kringle (my fav.)
Pics coming.

Monterey, CA

It was supposed to be raining heavily while we were here, but we got lucky. Woke to a beautiful day.
After noticing a near flat tire pulling in last night we were able to order, pick up and get a new one on the trailer today and all before noon! It's always something.
Rode the bikes and did some site seeing. Old homes/buildings history and the ocean with our final stop being Cannery Row (made famous thru Steinbeck's stories.) So interesting (and sad) that within a 25-30 year period we almost wiped out an entire species in this area; sardines.  So to overcome our sadness we had to go to Ghirardelli Chocolates, the true reason I come to California.
Tomorrow we should be in Los Padre's Nat'l Forest.
Today's wildlife sitings: otters, Harbor seals, seagull (&family) and pellies.

Headed South Once Again

Hey all! All buttoned down to head south.  We got a block away from home and had to turn around.  Fan not working! Lucky Ed is mechanical. One hour later we were on our way. Made it to Eugene. Woke to seeing our breath and then hit snow in northern California.
Stayed at Rolling Hills Casino last night in Corning eating at their buffet and then doing a few slots to win back all but $5 of the buffet cost!!
Thursday we've landed at Monterey Bay's fairgrounds. It's a three mile bike ride to Cannery Row, which we'll do tomorrow. Tonight we hit fisherman's wharf where Ed docked during trip down the coast. See pics! More to come...
